Midlothian SNP's candidate for Ward 3 Dalkeith.
Craig has lived in the Dalkeith area almost all his life. He was educated at Woodburn Primary and Dalkeith High. After travelling across America he attended the University of Edinburgh where he gained a degree in history. Whilst working for a local museum he undertook a part-time post-graduate diploma in Museum and Gallery Studies at the University of St Andrews. He currently works as a Local History Officer for East Lothian Council. He has written three local history books, two of which - Old Loanhead and Dalkeith Since the War - deal with towns in Midlothian. He is married with two children.
What I intend to do in each of my areas:
All areas :
- Tackling anti-social behaviour will be one of my major priorities and I will fight to ensure that more policemen pound the beat and that they have more powers to deal with any arising problems.
- I will propose traffic calming measures where demanded by local residents, including speed bumps across the length of roads and speed activated signs.
- The new bin collections are addressing the real problem of global warming, but at present this is at the expense of hygiene and convenience. I will propose the frequency of collection of rubbish bins is addressed by the council.
- The streets we walk on are a disgrace with dog's mess virtually everywhere we look. I propose to raise this and deal with it as soon as I am elected to council.
Dalkeith:
- Changes to the town centre of Dalkeith will affect how we view our town for many decades to come. I will ensure that the people of Dalkeith will be consulted (and listened to) regarding any changes to the town centre.
Danderhall and Woodburn:
- The closure of post offices will cause untold hardships for those people who use them regularly. I will wholeheartedly oppose the closure of any post offices in Midlothian .
Danderhall
- The Shawfair development could create serious problems for our under-developed infrastructure. I will fight to upgrade services to ensure that the effect on the people of Danderhall and surrounding area is minimised.
